The red squirrel is an original species native to Great Britain and rely on broadleaf and conifer woodland to survive. They feed on nuts, seeds, tree shoots and other plant matter and are struggling to survive due to the invasion of grey squirrels and the spread of squirrel pox. They can be seen in various locations around the Lake District.
